THE MAIDS by Jean Genet
"The Maids" is Jean Genet’s claustrophobic psychological drama about power, ritual, and identity. Two servants, locked in a perverse and intimate bond, enact elaborate role-playing fantasies in which they imitate—and seek to destroy—their mistress. As the boundaries between performance and reality collapse, the play exposes the violence, desire, and self-loathing embedded in systems of domination, turning servitude into a grotesque, ceremonial rebellion.

THE MAIDS by Jean Genet, in a translation by Martin Crimp was first performed at the Young Vic Theatre on 1 July 1999.
